I just got back from Barcelona, and many friends have been asking how much money to budget for a trip there. I stayed for a week and recorded all my expenses, which I’ve now organized as a reference for you.
Accommodation Costs
Accommodation costs can vary quite a bit. I stayed in an apartment-hotel near the city center, which was about €70 per night. If you’re on a tight budget, you can get a bed in a youth hostel for €20-€30. For more comfort, a four-star hotel will generally cost between €100-€150. I recommend booking in advance on Booking.com or Airbnb to save a significant amount. In total, I spent €490 on accommodation for the week.

Dining Expenses
When it comes to food, eating at restaurants every day can be quite expensive for a Barcelona travel budget. A main meal costs around €15-€25 per person, and a breakfast of a croissant and coffee at a cafe is about €5. My strategy was to have simple breakfasts and lunches, then try local specialty restaurants for dinner. Buying fruit, bread, and ham from a supermarket is also a great way to save money. I highly recommend the La Boqueria market; their paella is excellent value for money. Over the week, I spent about €280 on food.
Transport and Tickets
Barcelona’s public transport is very convenient. I suggest buying a T-10 travel card, which gives you 10 journeys for just €11.35 and can be used on both the metro and buses. Tickets for major attractions are also a significant expense: Sagrada Familia is €26, Casa Batlló is €29, and Park Güell is €10. If your Barcelona trip includes many attractions, consider getting a Barcelona Card. I spent a total of about €150 on transport and tickets.
Overall Budget Reference

| Accommodation | 490 | Apartment-hotel in the city center |
| Food & Drink | 280 | Includes all meals |
| Transport | 50 | T-10 card + airport round trip |

| Total | 1000 | |
Money-Saving Tips
Finally, here are a few money-saving tips: travel during the off-season to save up to 30% on accommodation; many museums offer free admission on the first Sunday of each month; the ‘Menú del día’ (menu of the day) for lunch is much cheaper than dinner; and use public transport instead of taking taxis. In general, if you’re not too extravagant with Barcelona’s attractions, a weekly budget of €1000-€1500 is quite reasonable. Of course, everyone’s spending habits are different, so this is just for reference.
