Having lived in Barcelona for a few years, I’ve discovered that beyond Gaudí’s architecture and its beaches, the city is home to many fantastic local handbag brands. Today, I want to share some of my personal favorites, ranging from designer pieces to affordable options, hoping this helps fellow bag lovers.
Local Designer Brands
Misako
This is a well-known brand in Barcelona, offering reasonably priced, youthful, and trendy designs. Their canvas and leather bags are both good, and the quality is quite reliable. They have stores on Passeig de Gràcia and Portal de l’Àngel where you can try them on. I personally bought a brown shoulder bag from them, and it still looks new after two years of use.

Bimba y Lola
Although this brand is headquartered in Galicia, it’s very popular in Barcelona. Their bag designs are quite bold with vibrant colors, perfect for those who love a unique style. The price is slightly higher than Misako, but the craftsmanship is definitely more refined. I highly recommend their chain bags, which are perfect for evening wear.
Artisan Leather Workshops
In the Born and Gràcia districts, you’ll find several small leather workshops where you can get a custom-made bag. Prices vary depending on the size and leather, ranging from approximately €80 to €200. The advantage is that it’s one-of-a-kind, and you can choose the color and hardware to your liking. I had a clutch made at a workshop on Carrer dels Banys Vells; the artisan’s craftsmanship was excellent, but the production time was quite long, requiring a 3 to 4-week wait.

Shopping Tips
If you’re on a budget, I suggest waiting for the sales season. Barcelona’s sales typically occur in January and July, when many brands offer discounts of 30% to 50%. You can find deals in many places, including at some of the brands at the Barcelona airport. Also, avoid buying bags on La Rambla; it’s a major tourist area with inflated prices and generally lower quality.
Finally, I’d say that while Barcelona may not have as many major luxury handbag brands as Milan or Paris, the local designers’ work is truly distinctive. The city also has a great scene for local Barcelona clothing brands! If you live in Barcelona or are planning a trip, I highly recommend visiting these stores. You might just find the perfect bag. Feel free to share your own brand recommendations too!
