While organizing my playlist recently, I realized I’ve saved a lot of songs related to Barcelona, including some Barcelona Olympic songs. This city isn’t just about Gaudí’s architecture and Camp Nou; it has also inspired countless musicians. Today, I want to share some of the Barcelona-themed songs that have left a lasting impression on me.
A Classic of Classics
When you talk about songs about Barcelona, the first one that comes to mind is undoubtedly Barcelona, the collaboration between Queen's Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé. This song was composed for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and is a powerful blend of rock and opera. Every time I hear Freddie’s iconic voice belting out “Barcelona,” I get goosebumps. Although he didn’t live to see the opening ceremony, this song has become Barcelona’s musical anthem.

Other Worthy Tracks
Besides Queen’s version, many other artists have also sung about Barcelona. For instance, Ed Sheeran’s Barcelona, while using the city more as a romantic backdrop in the lyrics, has a cheerful melody combined with the sound of a Spanish guitar that instantly gives you a holiday vibe. Then there’s George Ezra’s Barcelona, which has more of an indie feel. The lyrics describe the desire to escape daily life and start anew in Barcelona—a feeling many of us can probably relate to.
The Perspective of Local Musicians
Of course, local Catalan musicians haven’t been idle either. Artists like Manu Chao, though his musical style is more international, often incorporate the sounds of Barcelona’s streets and elements of the Catalan language into their work. There are also some Rumba Catalana bands that masterfully blend Gipsy music with Mediterranean rhythms. You can often hear street performers playing this kind of music on Las Ramblas.
| Song Title | Artist | Genre | Year Released |

Finally, I want to say that the relationship between music and a city is truly magical. Sometimes a song can make you long for a place you’ve never been, and other times it can bring back memories of your time there. Although I haven’t been to Barcelona yet, through these songs, like the songs of Camp Nou, it feels as if I’ve already watched the sunset in front of the Sagrada Família and gotten lost in the alleys of the Gothic Quarter. Do you have a favorite Barcelona-themed song? Or is there a song that always reminds you of this city? Feel free to share!
