I was just strolling down La Rambla this afternoon when I bumped into Jiling Jie! To be honest, I wasn’t sure it was her at first, as there’s always a slight difference between videos and real life. But her signature smile and the way she spoke made me recognize her instantly. She was taking photos in front of an ice cream shop, and after a moment’s hesitation, I went up to say hello.
Jiling Jie was incredibly friendly and down-to-earth. We chatted for about ten minutes. She mentioned she’s in Barcelona to film a new travel series and to experience the Mediterranean pace of life. She even recommended a nearby tapas place, saying their paella is especially authentic. When I asked what she thought of Barcelona, she said she was deeply impressed by the city’s architecture and cultural vibe, especially Gaudí’s work.

Speaking of Gaudí, Jiling Jie mentioned she plans to visit the Sagrada Família tomorrow and asked if I had any tips. I shared some practical advice, like booking tickets online in advance and arriving before 9 AM to avoid the crowds. She carefully noted it down on her phone and said she might mention these tips in her video. Oh, and she also hinted she might be heading to Madrid next week, so maybe some of you in Madrid will get a chance to see her too!
The Chances of Spotting a Celebrity in Barcelona
Actually, the probability of running into famous people in Barcelona is quite high, especially during the peak tourist season. I’ve compiled a list of spots where you’re likely to see bloggers or celebrities, based on observations of everyday life in Barcelona:
| Location | Sighting Probability | Best Time |
| La Rambla | High | 3-6 PM |
| Around Sagrada Família | Medium | 9-11 AM |
| Gothic Quarter | Medium-High | All day |
| Barceloneta Beach | Medium | Evening |
If You Want to Have a Chance Encounter Too
Here are a few tips: First, keep an eye on your favorite bloggers’ social media accounts, as many of them announce their travel plans in advance. Second, hang around popular tourist spots, especially the picturesque ones. Finally, always be polite and respectful of their time if you do meet them.
This encounter was such a pleasant surprise and added a lot of fun to my Barcelona trip. Before leaving, Jiling Jie even said I could @ her if I took any nice photos, and she might share them. Even though my photography skills are just average, I’m still excited about the possibility of getting a shout-out. Is anyone else in Barcelona right now? Maybe we could meet up and explore some cool spots together!
