Main Cities Overview
When it comes to buying property in Spain, most people’s first thoughts are Madrid and Barcelona. These two metropolises certainly have their advantages: more job opportunities, a rich cultural life, and excellent transport links. As the capital, Madrid is the absolute center of Spain, with a fast pace of life that’s ideal for career-focused young people. Barcelona, on the other hand, with its Gaudí architecture and Mediterranean charm, has a strong artistic atmosphere and is more favored by creatives and tourists. However, the downsides to both are just as obvious: property prices are high, they’re crowded with tourists, and the cost of living is in the top tier for Spain.
If you’re looking for a balance between quality of life and cost, I highly recommend Valencia and the southern Costa del Sol region. Valencia has been a real dark horse in recent years. It has a great climate, beaches, and is a clean, beautiful city. Moreover, its property buying areas in Spain are much more affordable compared to Madrid and Barcelona. The Costa del Sol, centered around Malaga and including resorts like Marbella, is one of Europe’s favorite retirement and holiday destinations. It’s sunny most of the year, the communities are highly international, and the lifestyle is very relaxed. Unlike some places where prices are always rising, the market here is still relatively healthy.
