Shortly after arriving in Spain, I kept hearing friends talk about Messi’s home in Barcelona. There were all sorts of legends, like it having a private football pitch and overlooking the Mediterranean, which made me very curious. Recently, while researching property prices around Barcelona, I took the opportunity to dig deeper into Messi’s legendary mansion and discovered it has quite a few interesting stories.
Where Exactly is Messi’s Home?
Messi’s home isn’t in Barcelona’s city center, but in a coastal town south of the city called Castelldefels. This area is a traditional affluent neighborhood, known for its beautiful environment and high level of privacy. It’s also very close to Barça’s former training ground, Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, just a 20-minute drive away. Many football stars have chosen to live in this vicinity; for instance, Luis Suárez used to be his neighbor, and their families were so close that their children attended the same school.

The Mystery of the Mansion’s Price
There are many conflicting reports online about the price of this mansion. The most reliable sources suggest that Messi bought the house in 2009 for around 1.8 million euros. Does that price seem modest for a football legend’s home like Messi’s mansion? The key, however, lies in the subsequent investments. He later purchased his neighbor’s property to ensure complete quiet and privacy. The costs of merging the two properties, extensive renovations, interior design, and adding facilities like a private football pitch, swimming pool, and gym amounted to several million more euros. Consequently, the property is now widely estimated to be worth between 7 and 10 million euros.
What’s even more interesting is the rumor that the area around his house was designated as a no-fly zone to deal with aircraft noise. Although the official reason given was for environmental protection, everyone knows the football legend’s influence likely played a significant role. This is something that money alone can’t buy—a true display of next-level influence.

Messi’s property has become far more than just a place to live; it’s like a small private kingdom. Although he has now moved to Miami, this house holds twenty years of golden memories for him and his family in Barcelona, carrying an emotional value that money probably can’t measure. One wonders if he will return to live here permanently after he retires. What do you all think?
