Lately, it seems the pandemic is on the rise again, and many friends around me are discussing it. It feels like the pressure on frontline healthcare workers is increasing. I saw in the news that many hospitals are still facing shortages of supplies, which got me thinking about how I could do my part. I wanted to donate some money to them—even if it’s just the price of a cup of coffee, it’s the thought that counts.
I’ve done some research and found that donating directly to Spain’s public healthcare system to support our [Spanish medical teams]
isn’t actually that straightforward. Unlike some NGOs, public hospital systems usually don’t have a very public or simple donation portal. However, I managed to find a few reliable official or semi-official channels, which I’m sharing with you all. Feel free to add more if you know of any!
Main Donation Channels
Spanish Red Cross
I find this to be the most convenient and reliable channel. The Red Cross is an international organization with a very established presence in Spain. Their donation projects are transparent, clearly stating how the funds will be used, such as for purchasing protective equipment, supporting quarantined families, providing psychological assistance, and offering support in areas like [medical malpractice claims]. You can donate directly on their official website using a bank card or Bizum, which is very convenient.

Official Programs from Regional Health Systems
Some autonomous communities open official donation channels during specific periods. For example, when the pandemic was severe, both the Community of Madrid and Catalonia announced dedicated bank accounts for fighting the epidemic. The advantage of this method is that the donations go directly to the local health system, making them more targeted. The downside is that you need to keep an eye on the news, as these channels may not be open permanently. I suggest searching the official website of your autonomous community’s health department for relevant information.
Below is some information I’ve compiled, focusing on a few major non-governmental organizations whose projects are typically ongoing:
| Organization Name | Donation Features | Website/Method |
| Cruz Roja Española | Comprehensive, wide coverage, option to specify projects | Direct donation on official website |
| Médicos Sin Fronteras | International medical aid, also has local projects in Spain | Become a member or make a one-time donation on the website |
| Cáritas Española | Focuses on social assistance, but includes medical support for vulnerable groups | Donate on the website or at a local parish |
Finally, I want to say that any donation, no matter the amount, is a gesture of kindness. The economy isn’t doing great right now, so everyone should just contribute what they can. If you believe in [mutual support] and have found other reliable donation methods, or have questions about any channel, please feel free to discuss them below. ¡Mucho ánimo a todos
