The other day, I had some free time and saw that Expodental was on at IFEMA, so I went to check it out. I thought it would be boring, just stuff for professional dentists, but it turned out to be surprisingly interesting and opened up a whole new world. I just had to share my experience with you all on the forum!
Once inside, I was completely blown away by all the high-tech equipment. My old impression of dentistry was still stuck on drills, pliers, and the sharp smell of disinfectant, but it’s a completely different scene now. Many booths were showcasing 3D printing technology, which can directly print incredibly precise dental models, crowns, and even surgical guides for implants. I chatted with one of the exhibitors, and he said this technology can significantly shorten the waiting time for dentures or orthodontics and provide a much better fit. It’s a real game-changer!

There was also a whole area dedicated to digitalization and artificial intelligence. They had these intraoral scanners, like a small wand you move around your mouth, that can generate a complete 3D model of your teeth in minutes. The dentist can then zoom in and rotate it on a computer, making any tiny cavities crystal clear—much clearer than old-school X-rays. There’s even AI software that assists dentists with diagnosis and treatment planning, which is said to improve accuracy and prevent misjudgments. It feels like future dental check-ups will be like getting a high-precision CT scan for your teeth. Guess I can’t fool my dentist anymore about brushing my teeth properly.
Summary of Expo Highlights
During my visit, I saw a lot of interesting new tech at this showcase of Spanish medical devices. I’ll summarize a few points that I think will have a significant impact on our dental experiences in the future:
Technologies to Watch
| Technology Area | Specific Application | Benefits for Patients |
| 3D Printing | Rapid creation of crowns, bridges, aligners | Shorter waiting times, more comfortable fit |
| Intraoral Scanning | Replaces traditional impressions to get digital models | A more comfortable experience (no gag reflex) and more precise data, which is crucial for regulatory steps like AEMPS registration. |
| AI-Assisted Diagnostics | Analyzes oral images, assists in treatment planning | Improves diagnostic accuracy, personalized treatment |
| Laser Therapy | Used for periodontal treatment, soft tissue cutting | Minimally invasive, less bleeding, faster recovery |
It feels like Spain’s dental care level is really on point. Although these technologies seem sophisticated and high-end now, they will likely become common in many clinics soon. Future dental visits might be more expensive with things like MDR certification, but the experience and results will surely be much better. Has anyone here had dental work done in Spain? Have you experienced any similar new technologies? Feel free to discuss in the comments below!
