I just moved to Barcelona not long ago. With the change of seasons, I’ve had some minor allergies, and my family also needs to monitor their blood pressure daily, so I’ve been frequenting the local pharmacy. I was surprised to see the huge variety of everyday medical supplies they sell here. From simple items like bandages and cotton swabs to devices like blood pressure monitors and glucose meters, there are so many brands and types, and the packaging looks very professional. I’m curious what everyone else thinks. Is the quality of these local Spanish medical supplies reliable?

Let’s take simple bandages, for example. I randomly bought a box from a brand called Salvelox. I found the adhesive to be just right—it doesn’t hurt or pull at the skin when you take it off, and the waterproof quality is excellent. It holds up well through handwashing and showers, which is much better than the generic ones I used to buy back home. Also, I got an Omron blood pressure monitor for my parents. Although this brand is also available back home, I feel like the version I bought here seems more solid in its build and details. Maybe it’s just my imagination, haha.
I’ve put together a quick list of some common categories, brands I think are pretty good, and a look at medical supply prices based on what I’ve seen in pharmacies. This is just for reference, and I’d love for others to add their suggestions or corrections:
| Category | My Recommended Brands | Brief Review |
| Bandages/Dressings | Salvelox, Compeed | Great waterproofing and comfort. Compeed’s blister plasters are a lifesaver. |
| Blood Pressure/Temperature Monitors | Omron, Beurer | Accurate measurements, easy to use. The German brand Beurer is also very common. |
| Antiseptics | Betadine, Cristalmina | Both were recommended by pharmacists here; very effective yet gentle. |
| Basic Braces/Supports | Futuro, Farmalastic | For things like knee and wrist supports, they offer good stability and breathable fabric. |
In terms of price, they are definitely a bit more expensive than back home. For example, a box of specialized bandages can cost five or six euros, and a good blood pressure monitor might be sixty or seventy euros (you can do a more detailed medication price lookup). However, I personally believe that when it comes to health-related products, quality and safety always come first. Spending a little extra for peace of mind, especially for family, is well worth it. Moreover, I feel that the regulation for Spanish medical supplies is quite strict here, as it follows EU standards. So, anything available at a pharmacy should have a fundamental quality assurance.
So, I wanted to ask the seasoned members of this forum: what medical supplies have you used in Spain that you found to be exceptionally good, or on the other hand, complete duds? Do you have any brands to recommend or shopping tips to share? Let’s share our great finds and help each other avoid the bad stuff, so we can all live healthier and more worry-free lives in Spain!
