For our Italian friends who have just arrived in Spain or whose Spanish isn’t quite fluent yet, is visiting a doctor a major challenge? Communication can feel like a guessing game, full of gestures and crossed wires, leaving you worried about misunderstandings. I recently helped an Italian friend compile some information and a medical team list, so I’m sharing it here in hopes that it can help others in a similar situation.
This list has been primarily compiled from the official website of the Italian Embassy in Spain and various expatriate communities. It may not be exhaustive, but it should cover most needs. If you have any additions, please feel free to share them in the comments below. The more we share, the better!

Madrid Area
As the capital, Madrid has relatively abundant resources. Here are a few doctors I know of or who have a good reputation within the community.
| Doctor’s Name | Specialty | Contact/Address |
| Dott.ssa Carmela Savoia | Medicina Generale | c/guzman el bueno 75, 1A |
| Dott. Giovanni Luigi Tognoli | Pediatria | Hospital La Paz / Consulta privada |
| Dott.ssa Luisa F. Viggiano | Ginecologia | Zona Chamartín, Appointment by email required |
| Dott. Antonio Bianchi | Odontoiatria | Clínica Dental Bianchi |
Barcelona and Other Regions
Barcelona also has a large Italian community, so there are quite a few doctors to be found. You can also find some in Valencia and the Andalusia region, although they are more spread out.
- Barcelona: We recommend Dott.ssa Elena Rossi, who has a clinic in the Gràcia district and is known for being very patient and highly-rated. Additionally, the international department at Quirónsalud Teknon offers Italian interpretation services, although the cost is higher.
- Valencia: You can contact the Asociazione Italiani a Valencia. They maintain a mutual support list that includes recommended doctors.
- Málaga: Dott. Marco De Luca is quite well-known in the Costa del Sol area.
Finally, a quick reminder: before visiting any of these doctors, it’s best to book an appointment in advance by phone or email. You should confirm if they are accepting new patients and check their consultation hours. Also, if you have private health insurance, make sure to verify that the doctor or clinic is in your provider’s network to avoid any issues with reimbursement. Wishing everyone good health in Spain!
