As someone relatively new to Spain, I haven’t been very familiar with the healthcare system here. For minor aches and pains, I’ve always just gone to the local community health center (centro de salud) and haven’t had to visit any major hospitals. The other day, I was chatting with a friend and we started wondering about the quality of medical care in Spain. I did a quick search, and I was pleasantly surprised by what I found!
It turns out that every year, the American magazine Newsweek, in collaboration with the data company Statista, releases a ’World’s Best Hospitals’ ranking. I checked out the latest 2024 list and saw that several Spanish hospitals made it into the global TOP 250, and with quite high rankings! This definitely boosts my confidence in the healthcare here.
Top-Ranked Hospitals in Spain
In this year’s list, 8 Spanish hospitals made it into the top 250 worldwide. The highest-ranked is Madrid’s Hospital Universitario La Paz at number 46 globally. Barcelona’s Hospital Clínic de Barcelona follows closely behind at 63rd. These two can be considered the leaders in Spanish healthcare.
