Hi everyone, I was recently keeping an eye out for job openings for a friend who works in a hospital and came across a great opportunity. I thought some of you on this forum with a relevant academic background might be interested, so I’m sharing it here.
The position is for a Laboratory Technician, or Técnico/a de Laboratorio, at a well-known public hospital in Barcelona. This is a very stable job, and working in a hospital generally means that benefits and conditions are well-regulated, much more reliable than some smaller private companies.

Basic Job Requirements
I’ve summarized the key information so you can see if you meet the criteria for a Spanish hospital laboratory. This isn’t a research position, so the educational requirements aren’t extremely high, but technical skills are mandatory.
Application Requirements
- Education: A ‘Formación Profesional’ (FP) qualification as a ‘Técnico Superior en Laboratorio Clínico y Biomédico’ or an equivalent degree is required. This qualification must be officially recognized in Spain.
- Languages: Spanish and Catalan are mandatory. The work environment primarily uses these two languages, so you’ll need to be fluent in both speaking and writing reports. Good English is a plus but not required.
- Experience: Previous experience working in a hospital or clinical analysis laboratory is highly advantageous, especially if you are familiar with routine procedures in hematology, biochemistry, or microbiology.
Below is a summary table of the requirements and benefits:
| Item | Details |
| Contract Type | Contrato indefinido (Permanent contract) |
| Working Hours | Full-time, may involve shift work |
| Location | Barcelona city |
| Salary Range | Determined by the hospital’s salary scale and individual experience |
Some Personal Thoughts
I think this is a fantastic opportunity for those already in Spain with the relevant FP qualification. Positions in public hospitals are usually highly sought after due to their stability. While the Catalan language requirement is there, it’s a common expectation for jobs in Barcelona. If your specialization matches and your language skills are up to par, you should definitely give it a shot. Remember to make your CV look professional, highlighting your relevant experience and skills. Good luck to everyone! ¡Mucha suerte a todos
