Hello everyone! I’ve recently been busy arranging a family visit visa for my parents from back home, and one of the trickier documents is the ‘medical invitation letter.’ While it’s not always mandatory, if you hold a non-lucrative residency permit or want your parents to come for a check-up or minor treatment, this medical invitation letter becomes crucial and can significantly boost your visa approval chances.
I went to several private hospitals to inquire and combined their advice with tips from experienced people online to create a comprehensive template. I can’t say it’s 100% perfect, but it covers the main ideas and key information. I’m sharing it today in hopes of helping others who need it.

Core Components of the Invitation Letter
A proper medical invitation letter is essentially proof of a medical appointment, intended to show the visa officer that the applicant has a clear and legitimate reason for a medical consultation or check-up in Spain. Therefore, the letter must include the following key elements:
Hospital Information
- The hospital’s full name, address, contact number, and official email
- The name, position, and medical license number of the doctor issuing the letter
Inviter and Invitee Information
- The inviter’s full name, NIE number, and address in Spain
- The invitee’s full name, passport number, date of birth, and home address
- Most importantly: Clearly state the family relationship, for example, “la Sra. XXX, madre del Sr. YYY.”
Details of the Medical Arrangement
- A clear statement of the medical purpose, whether it’s a comprehensive health check-up, a specialist consultation, or other treatment.
- Specific appointment date and time. If it’s a course of treatment, the start and estimated end dates should be clearly stated.
- An estimated cost of the medical services. This is very important to prove you can afford it. Even for a simple check-up, have the hospital provide an approximate figure. Some hospitals may require a partial prepayment before issuing the letter.
| Essential Information | Description |
| Hospital Letterhead and Logo | Demonstrates professionalism and authenticity |
| Doctor’s Signature and Stamp | Must be a real signature and the official hospital stamp |
| Cost Estimate | Proves ability to pay and dispels suspicion of immigration intent |
| Date and Place | The date and city where the letter was issued |
Remember to include the original copy of this letter from the hospital along with the proof of payment in your visa application documents. When I applied, the staff at the visa center specifically looked through these pages. It seems they consider it quite important. Wishing everyone’s families a smooth journey to visit us! Feel free to discuss if you have any other questions! 😊
