Lately, there have been more and more posts in the forum discussing children’s schooling, especially regarding the choice of international schools. My family and I have been grappling with this issue as well, and after a lot of research, I thought I’d compile the information I’ve gathered on international school tuition fees in major Spanish cities. I’m sharing it here as a reference for others facing the same decisions. Let’s discuss and share what we know!

Overview of International School Tuition Fees by City
It’s important to note that this ‘ranking’ isn’t official. It’s something I compiled based on publicly available information and data from some educational consulting websites on international school tuition fees. I’ve primarily focused on high school tuition, as this stage is the most representative. Furthermore, many schools are not transparent about their fees, with costs often unlisted on their official websites, so the data may not be entirely accurate. I welcome any additions or corrections! Generally, the most elite and renowned schools have tuition fees ranging from €15,000 to €25,000 per year, or even higher. Madrid and Barcelona are undoubtedly in the top tier.
Madrid Area
As the capital, Madrid has a plethora of excellent schools, and naturally, the prices are the ‘prettiest.’ For example, at the renowned King’s College, The British School of Madrid and Runnymede College, high school tuition generally exceeds €20,000 per year. The American-system school, The American School of Madrid, is in the same price range. In addition to tuition, these schools usually charge a hefty registration fee, which can easily be several thousand euros. Furthermore, costs for the school bus, lunch, uniforms, and extracurricular activities are all extra. When you add it all up, you really need to budget carefully.
Barcelona and Surrounding Areas
The situation in Barcelona is similar to Madrid. Schools like Benjamin Franklin International School and The British School of Barcelona have tuition fees that easily surpass €20,000. However, one advantage of Barcelona is that if you venture out to nearby coastal towns like Sitges or Castelldefels, you can find excellent international schools in beautiful settings. The [Spanish international school tuition fees] there might be slightly lower than in the city center, but they remain at a relatively high level overall.
I’ve created a simple table listing a few representative schools and their approximate annual high school tuition fees to give you a more direct idea. I must stress again, this is just an estimate. You must contact the schools’ admissions departments directly to confirm the exact costs! Choosing a school is a major decision, and besides the [international school tuition fees], factors like the curriculum, faculty, facilities, and university placements of graduates are all crucial aspects to investigate.
