Our family has been deep in the often-overwhelming process of choosing a school for our child here in Barcelona, with the goal of finding a reliable international school. After some research, The British School of Barcelona (BSB) kept coming up, so I took some time to do a deep dive into the BSB application process. I’ve compiled my findings here to hopefully help other families with the same goal.
General School Information
BSB is a purely British-style educational institution with a strong reputation in the Barcelona area. It has several campuses, primarily located in Castelldefels and Sitges, both of which are pleasant, affluent areas. The main campus, BSB Castelldefels, boasts excellent facilities and caters to students from nursery through to pre-university levels. Another newer campus, BSB City, is located in Barcelona city itself, making it much more convenient for families living in the city center, although it currently seems to only go up to the primary school level.

Curriculum and Teaching
The school follows the British National Curriculum, culminating in A-Levels for the final two years of secondary school. It also offers the IBDP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) as an alternative. I find this flexibility great, as it allows students to choose the system that best suits them. From the feedback of other parents, it seems most teachers are from the UK, and the teaching quality is high, with a strong academic atmosphere. Beyond the core subjects, the school offers a wide range of extracurricular activities, including sports, art, music, and STEM clubs, catering to a diverse range of student interests.
Tuition Fees and Application
Regarding the topic everyone is most curious about—tuition fees—BSB falls into the upper-mid range for international schools in Barcelona. I checked the latest information on their official website and have put together an approximate annual fee range:
| Grade Level | Approximate Annual Fee (€) |
| Early Years | 11,000 - 12,000 |
| Primary | 12,000 - 14,000 |
| Secondary | 15,000 - 17,000 |
| Pre-University | 17,000 - 19,000 |
Note:These figures represent tuition only and do not include additional costs such as registration fees, lunch, school bus, uniforms, or extracurricular activities. Therefore, the total budget should be adjusted upwards. The application process is quite standard: you submit an online application, prepare the required documents, and then the school will schedule an interview and an entrance assessment. Places for popular year groups are highly competitive, and it’s said that many families get on the waiting list a year or two in advance, so it’s crucial to contact the admissions office as early as possible
!
If your family’s budget allows and you want your child to receive an authentic British education, BSB is definitely a top contender. Its academic standards, facilities, and community environment are all excellent. Of course, every child is different, so the best approach is to book a campus tour to experience the school’s atmosphere firsthand. We have already scheduled our visit for next month and will share more firsthand impressions afterwards! I also welcome parents whose children are currently attending BSB to share their experiences!
