Having recently moved to Spain, finding the right school for my child became a top priority. I asked around in various online groups and spent a lot of time searching online, only to find that information about Chinese international schools in Spain is quite scattered. To make it easier for others, I’m sharing a list of school websites and some information I found useful. I hope this can help parents who are also struggling with the school selection process.

Official School Websites
I’ve mainly focused on a few popular schools in Madrid and Barcelona, as this is where most families are concentrated. These schools are notable for emphasizing Chinese education while also integrating with the local Spanish or international education systems, which is very helpful for children’s integration into the local culture and preservation of their Chinese heritage.
Madrid Area
- Madrid Aihua Chinese School : This is one of the more established Chinese schools in Madrid with a long history and a solid reputation. Its curriculum is quite comprehensive, covering everything from kindergarten to upper grades. Their website has detailed course descriptions and enrollment information.
- Madrid Overseas Chinese School: This is another school with a long history; many children of long-time Chinese residents have studied here. In addition to language courses, it organizes many cultural activities that help children better understand traditional Chinese culture.
Barcelona Area
- Barcelona Confucius Cultural School : Highly renowned in Barcelona, this school not only teaches Chinese but also offers many interest-based classes like traditional Chinese painting, calligraphy, and martial arts. Their website is quite modern and is updated regularly.
- Barcelona International Language School: This school is characterized by its more international approach. Besides Chinese, it places a strong emphasis on teaching Spanish and Catalan, making it suitable for families who want their children to integrate well into local society for their future development.
Some Personal Thoughts on Choosing a School
Choosing a school is a very personal decision; there’s no absolute ‘best’ or ‘worst,’ only what’s most ‘suitable.’ Based on my research, I’ve created a simple table to help you consider your priorities:
| Consideration | My Suggestion |
| Chinese Language Foundation | If you want your child to build a solid foundation in Chinese, I recommend choosing a school with a long history and a well-structured curriculum. |
| Local Integration | If integrating into the local community is a higher priority, consider international schools that are more closely aligned with the Spanish education system. |
| Developing Hobbies | Look into whether the school offers a rich variety of extracurricular activities and clubs, such as music, dance, or sports. |
| Location | This is really important |
| ![/i] You must consider the daily commute distance and time cost, or it will be exhausting for both parents and children. |
Finally, I want to say that website information is just the first step. I strongly recommend scheduling a visit to see the Chinese international schools
in person, talking with the teachers, and getting a feel for the school’s atmosphere. After all, this is where your child will spend a significant amount of time, so the environment and staff are crucial. I hope every child finds a school they love! If you have other great schools to recommend, please feel free to share and discuss them below!
