I’ve been helping a young relative look for universities recently and have been researching a few options here in Valencia. I noticed that many people are asking about CEU Cardenal Herrera University. It seems to be a popular topic, so I decided to start a thread to share what I’ve found. Anyone with experience or knowledge about the university is welcome to add their thoughts and join the discussion.
University Overview
CEU is a well-known private university in Spain with a long history. Its main campus is located in the town of Moncada, on the outskirts of Valencia. The environment there is really nice—very quiet and conducive to studying. The campus is large, the facilities look modern, and it’s very green, creating a relaxed academic atmosphere. I drove there once, and it’s about a 20-minute drive from Valencia’s city center. It’s also directly accessible via Metro Line 1, so transportation is quite convenient. In addition to the Moncada campus, it also has campuses in Elche and Castellón.

Programs and Teaching
CEU offers a wide range of programs, covering everything from health sciences to social sciences, design, architecture, law, business, and more. You can basically find whatever you’re looking to study. Its Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry programs are flagship disciplines, well-regarded throughout Europe, and are said to have state-of-the-art equipment and ample internship opportunities. The teaching approach is very international, with many courses offered in English or bilingually. Class sizes are small, following a small-group teaching model, which reportedly allows for more interaction between professors and students. This is likely a significant draw for students who want to integrate quickly and dislike large lecture-style classes.
Application and Tuition Fees
As a private university, its application process differs from public universities. It mainly involves an entrance exam and interview organized by the university itself, and there are, of course, language requirements. As for tuition, it is indeed significantly more expensive than public universities, which is typical for private institutions. The fees vary greatly by program. I’ve compiled a rough range of annual tuition for a few popular majors to give you an idea:
| Program | Approx. Annual Fee |
| Dentistry | €15,000 - €21,000 |
| Veterinary Medicine | €14,000 - €18,000 |
| Architecture | €9,000 - €13,000 |
| Journalism | €7,000 - €9,000 |
My overall impression is that CEU is a private university with excellent facilities, a strong focus on practical skills, and an international approach to teaching. The pros are the small class sizes, high degree of internationalization, modern facilities, and strong reputation in key programs. The main cons are the expensive tuition and that the main campus isn’t located in the city center, so students who prefer a bustling urban lifestyle will need to factor in the commute. When comparing Valencia’s international schools, location is often a key consideration. Personally, I believe that if your budget allows and your desired major is one of CEU’s strengths, it’s an excellent choice. If you’re looking for value for money, a public university might be more suitable. What does everyone else think? Feel free to leave a comment and join the discussion below!
