I’ve been looking at schools for my little one in Barcelona recently, and it’s been quite overwhelming. There are many international schools to choose from, each with its own characteristics and focus. Over the past couple of days, I’ve been digging into the well-known La Miranda International School. I’ve compiled some information and wanted to start a conversation to see if there are any parents here whose children are currently attending or have graduated, who could share their genuine experiences.
General Information
La Miranda is a private international school that offers a complete education from kindergarten through high school. Founded in 1967, it’s considered one of Barcelona’s long-standing, prestigious schools. The main campus is in Sant Just Desvern, not far from some areas popular with the Chinese community, making the commute relatively convenient. The school’s facilities are top-notch and look very modern, with fully equipped labs, art studios, and sports facilities. I heard their swimming pool is even semi-Olympic size, which is a big plus for active children.

Teaching Philosophy and Curriculum
The school’s most distinctive feature is likely its multilingual environment. Students are exposed to English, Spanish, and Catalan from the early years. In primary school, French and Mandarin Chinese are also introduced. This is very appealing, as it seems like a child growing up in this environment would develop strong language skills. In terms of curriculum, it’s based on the Spanish national education system but integrates international teaching methods. At the high school level, they offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme. Here’s a summary of the curriculum focus for each stage that I’ve put together:
| Age Group | Educational Focus |
| Infants/Toddlers | Early sensory stimulation, emotional intelligence development |
| Preschool | Immersive multilingual environment, project-based learning |
| Primary School | Introduction to French and Chinese, foundational subject knowledge |
| Middle School | In-depth subject study, skill development |
| High School | IBDP curriculum, university preparation |
Questions and Concerns
While it all looks great, I do have a few concerns. First is the tuition. As a top-tier private school, the fees are certainly not cheap. They aren’t listed on the website; you have to inquire directly. Does anyone have an idea of the approximate range? Second, I’ve heard the school is academically rigorous and quite competitive. I wonder if the pressure might be too much for a child who isn’t naturally super competitive. Also, although the school offers Chinese classes at La Miranda International School, it’s taught as a foreign language. I’m curious about the depth and effectiveness of the instruction, and whether it can genuinely help a child maintain their Chinese proficiency.
My initial impression of La Miranda is very positive; it seems like a school that truly values holistic development and an international perspective. However, choosing a school is a major decision, and you can’t just judge by its shiny exterior. I would be very grateful if any experienced members on this forum could share some insights—for instance, on the actual learning atmosphere, the dedication of the teachers, the backgrounds of the student body, and so on. Any piece of information would be incredibly valuable to me. Thank you all in advance!
