As a newcomer to Spain, I’ve recently started thinking about buying a home, focusing on villas or townhouses around Madrid. After some research, I’ve found quite a few property websites here, but each seems to have its own focus. Today, I’m starting this thread to talk about the main sites I’ve been using, and I welcome any suggestions or corrections from you all!
My Go-To Property Websites
Idealista
This one is probably a household name, right? It has the largest number of listings, the most user-friendly interface, and an excellent app. The search filters are incredibly powerful; you can filter by price, size, number of rooms, whether it has a pool, garden size, and much more. You can even draw an area on the map to search. Most listings are detailed with high-quality photos. The downside is that because it’s so mainstream, good properties get snapped up quickly, and when it comes to [websites for buying property in Spain], the agency fees are generally non-negotiable. I spend most of my time on this site.

Fotocasa
Fotocasa and Idealista are the two giants in the field. Fotocasa also has a vast number of listings, and sometimes you’ll find exclusive properties not available on Idealista. Personally, I find its interface a bit dated, and the app isn’t as smooth as Idealista’s. However, one of its unique features is providing property valuations, which is useful for [checking property prices in Spain]. Although it’s just an estimate, it helps in understanding the general market prices in an area. Also, I feel that Fotocasa has a slightly higher percentage of listings directly from private owners, so you can try your luck hunting for a deal there. Saving on agency fees would be fantastic, right?
Pisos.com
This website is smaller than the first two but serves as an important supplement. I’ve found that Pisos.com has decent coverage in smaller towns or less popular areas. If you’re looking for a country house or a Finca outside major cities on [Spanish real estate websites], it’s worth browsing here more often. Sometimes, smaller local agencies prefer to post their listings on Pisos.com. However, the overall quality of listings and the update frequency don’t seem to match the top two. You might occasionally find properties that are already sold but still listed, which can be a bit disappointing.
Here’s a brief summary of my personal take on these websites, just my subjective opinion:
| Website | Pros | Cons |
| Idealista | Most listings, great app, powerful filters | High competition, firm prices |
| Fotocasa | Has exclusive listings, provides price estimates | Slightly dated interface, average app experience |
| Pisos.com | Surprising finds in small towns, more local agencies | Slow updates, information can be outdated |
When searching for a specific type of property like a villa, I’d recommend using Idealista as your primary tool, supplemented by Fotocasa and Pisos.com. House hunting is hard work and a battle of information, so it’s always a good idea to look around and compare as much as possible. Do any of you have other useful websites to recommend? Let’s share and discuss!
