Hi everyone,
I’ve been considering a career change lately. The real estate market in Spain seems quite active, which gave me the idea of becoming a Spanish real estate consultant. To be honest, I’m a complete newcomer to this field, basically a blank slate. I wanted to ask on this forum if anyone is currently working in or familiar with this industry and could share what companies usually look for when hiring real estate consultants?
I’ve browsed some job postings online, and it seems language is the first major hurdle. Fluency in Spanish is a must for seamless communication and negotiation with locals. I assume speaking English or other languages, like Chinese, would be a huge plus, right? After all, the client base for property buyers is very diverse now. Besides language, are there specific personality requirements? I imagine you need to be very outgoing, patient, and able to handle pressure, since income is often tied to performance.

In terms of professional knowledge, do I have to start from scratch? For example, legal procedures for real estate transactions, tax calculations, mortgage knowledge, etc. Is this something companies provide training for after you’re hired, or do I need to get some qualifications beforehand? I’ve noticed some job descriptions mention a driver’s license and owning a car. Is this a strict requirement? In a big city like Madrid, if you’re mainly working in the city center, is public transport a viable option?
To get a clearer picture, I’ve tried to summarize the potential skill requirements based on the bits of information I’ve found. Could you all help me see if this list for a Spanish real estate consultant is accurate or if there’s anything to add?
| Skill Category | Specific Requirements |
| Language Skills | Fluent in Spanish (speaking, listening, reading, writing); English or other languages are a plus |
| Soft Skills | Communication and negotiation skills, resilience, approachability, service-oriented mindset |
| Professional Knowledge | Knowledge of the local real estate market, transaction laws, and tax regulations |
| Hard Requirements | NIE/Work Permit, Driver’s license and car |
I’m feeling a bit lost; it seems like there’s a lot to learn.
Thank you in advance for your answers, everyone! Any piece of information would be incredibly helpful. Even just complaining about how tough the industry is would give me a much-needed reality check, haha. If you have any reliable companies or teams to recommend, I would be even more grateful!
