I’ve been in Spain for quite a few years now, from renting as a student to later considering buying a home. I must have downloaded at least eight or ten property apps on my phone over time. I often see newcomers on forums asking how to find a place, so today I’m starting this thread to share my personal experiences with some of the main property websites and apps. I hope this helps!
A Quick Review of the Major Platforms
When it comes to finding a property in Spain, you can’t really avoid the ‘big three’: Idealista, Fotocasa, and Pisos.com. I pretty much check all three of them daily. In my opinion, Idealista is the undisputed leader. It has the most comprehensive listings for both rentals and sales, and they’re updated frequently. Its app interface and user experience are also the best, with incredibly detailed filter options—you can sort by neighborhood, price, size, whether there’s an elevator, if it’s furnished, and more, which is super convenient. As with any top-tier Spanish property apps, the only downside is that because Idealista is so famous, great listings get snapped up almost instantly. It’s a classic case of ‘you snooze, you lose.’
Fotocasa is a close second with a large number of listings as well. Sometimes you can find exclusive properties on it that aren’t on Idealista. Its interface is also good, but I personally feel its filtering options and map search aren’t quite as smooth as Idealista’s. It’s worth noting that Fotocasa seems to have a higher proportion of listings from private landlords, so if you’re trying to avoid real estate agencies, it’s worth trying your luck there.

As for Pisos.com, I feel its market share is smaller, especially in smaller cities, where the number of listings and update frequency can’t match the other two. However, its advantage is that you can occasionally find some overlooked ‘hidden gems.’ It’s the kind of platform you can use as a supplement and browse from time to time. So, for a Spanish property app strategy, my advice is: focus on Idealista, supplement with Fotocasa, and browse Pisos.com in your spare time.
Feature Comparison Summary
To make things clearer, I’ve made a simple comparison table. Keep in mind this is all based on my personal experience, so it might not be perfectly accurate.
| Platform | Number of Listings | App Experience | Features |
| Idealista | Most | Best | Frequent updates, detailed filters, high competition |
| Fotocasa | High | Good | More private landlords, a good Spanish property app to supplement your search |
| Pisos.com | Average | Average | Occasional overlooked listings, good for finding hidden gems |
Just a few last words: no matter which app you use, when you see a property you like, don’t hesitate—call or message them immediately. It’s best to write your message in Spanish, briefly introducing yourself, as this will greatly increase your chances of getting a reply. Many great places are gone within a day or two of being listed. I wish you all the best in finding your perfect home soon! If you’ve used other great apps, feel free to share and discuss them below!
