I moved to Spain not long ago, and the apartment hunt was a real headache. It took me over a month of back-and-forth before I finally settled in Barcelona. I’ve seen many people on forums asking for advice on finding a place, so I decided to create a post to share my experience with some of Spain’s main local real estate websites. I hope this helps others who are renting or buying to avoid some of the pitfalls I encountered.
# Top Tier: Idealista & Fotocasa
These two are undoubtedly the giants of the Spanish real estate world. They cover the vast majority of listings on the market, used by both private landlords and real estate agencies. I actually found my own apartment on Idealista.
Idealista: This site has the most user-friendly interface and the best overall user experience, with a very smooth app. Listings are updated frequently, and its filtering options are powerful—you can narrow your search by area, price, property type, and even specific amenities like an elevator or air conditioning. However, because it’s so popular, good properties get snatched up incredibly fast. If you see something you like, you have to contact them immediately, or it might be gone in a flash.
Fotocasa: It’s on the same level as Idealista with a huge number of listings. Personally, I feel that Fotocasa has a slightly higher proportion of listings from agencies, and you can sometimes find exclusive properties that aren’t on Idealista. It’s a good idea to browse both to get the full picture.

# Second Tier & Regional Options
Besides the top two, there are a few other websites worth checking out. While they might have fewer listings, you can occasionally find a hidden gem.
Pisos.com: This is another nationwide platform. Although its volume of listings doesn’t match the top two, the interface is quite clear. I’ve found that its price range can sometimes be more budget-friendly, making it a good secondary search tool.
Habitaclia: This website is particularly dominant in the Catalonia region. If you’re looking for a place in cities like Barcelona or Girona, you must check Habitaclia. It has a very high penetration rate locally, and many local landlords and small agencies prefer using it. It’s less prominent in other regions of Spain.
| Website | Key Features | Best For (Region) |
| Idealista | Great UX, fast updates | All of Spain |
| Fotocasa | Huge volume of listings, many from agencies | All of Spain |
| Pisos.com | Potentially more affordable prices | All of Spain |
| Habitaclia | King in Catalonia | Mainly Catalonia |
Finally, a few personal tips. When contacting landlords or agents on these sites, it’s best to call them directly. The response rate for emails or internal messages is frustratingly low. Also, be cautious of listings with beautiful photos but prices that are far below market value—they are often scams. I wish you all the best in finding your perfect home! If you know of other useful websites or have experiences with Spanish real estate agencies, feel free to share and discuss them below!
