Having recently moved to Spain, I’ve been deep into house hunting. Whether you’re looking to rent or buy, the first step is always diving into the major property websites. After some research, I’ve found that Spain has quite a few, each with its own quirks. Today, I’m sharing my experience to help others who are also on the hunt for a new home.
Idealista: The Most Comprehensive, A Household Name
When it comes to finding a property in Spain, Idealista is the undeniable first choice. My impression is that it has the most extensive and widest-ranging listings. Whether you’re looking in big cities like Madrid and Barcelona or in more remote towns, you can find properties here. There are tons of listings from both private landlords and real estate agencies, and they’re updated frequently. Its app and website are quite intuitive, with powerful filter options that let you search by area, price, property type, and even specific features like whether it has an elevator or comes furnished, which is very convenient. The only downside is that because it’s so popular, good properties get snapped up incredibly fast. If you see something you like, you have to contact them immediately.

Fotocasa: Aesthetically Pleasing with a Great User Experience
Fotocasa is my second choice; it and Idealista are like the dynamic duo of the Spanish property market. I find Fotocasa’s website and app interface to be a bit more modern than Idealista’s, and the photo quality generally seems higher. While its number of listings on some Spanish property websites might be slightly less than Idealista’s, it’s still massive. In popular cities, there’s a lot of overlap between the two, but you can occasionally find exclusive listings on Fotocasa. I particularly like its map search feature; you can drag and zoom on the map, and property details pop up directly, which is very intuitive for those unfamiliar with an area.
A Brief Comparison of the Major Websites
To help you compare, I’ve put together a simple table summarizing my personal take on the main websites:
| Website | Pros | Cons |
| Idealista | Most listings, widest coverage, powerful filters | High competition for good properties, some photo quality is average |
| Fotocasa | Modern interface, great map search feature | The total number of listings might be slightly lower than Idealista’s, though it remains a top-tier Spanish property website. |
| Pisos.com | Also has many listings, sometimes with unique finds | Less well-known, average app experience |
| Habitaclia | Primarily strong in the Catalonia region | Regionally focused; its content now largely overlaps with Idealista’s |
My recommendation is to focus on Idealista and Fotocasa, alternating between the two. This will cover over 90% of the properties on the market. You can use Pisos.com as a backup, checking it occasionally for a chance to find a hidden gem. House hunting requires both effort and luck, so I hope everyone can make the most of these tools to find their perfect home in Spain!
