After some research, I’ve found that Spain’s construction industry is quite deep. A few giants dominate large-scale projects, but there are also many small and medium-sized companies suitable for ordinary people like us. When talking about Spanish construction companies, there are a few giants you can’t ignore. They are famous not only in Spain but also globally. These companies primarily handle large-scale public works, commercial real estate, and high-end residential projects. While you probably wouldn’t hire them to build a small villa, it’s good to know who they are to understand the industry’s top standards.
ACS: The undisputed leader in the industry, with operations worldwide. It feels like half the cranes in Madrid have their logo on them. Their specialty is infrastructure projects like highways, railways, and airports.
Ferrovial: Another international giant. Besides construction, they heavily invest in operating transport infrastructure. For instance, they hold a stake in London’s Heathrow Airport. Their residential projects are typically large-scale developments.
Acciona: This company is particularly interesting. In addition to construction, they are a major player in the renewable energy sector. If your building philosophy leans towards green, eco-friendly, and sustainable design, their technology and concepts are definitely setting the trend.

How to Choose the Right Construction Company for You?
For most of us, the choice will likely be among small to medium-sized companies that specialize in residential construction. I’ve put together a few key points to consider, which I hope will be helpful:
- Review Their Portfolio: Look directly at the houses they have built or renovated in the past. This will give you a clear idea of their style, quality, and attention to detail.
- Check Licenses and Insurance: Ensure the company is legally licensed to operate and has decennial liability insurance (seguro decenal). This insurance covers structural defects for ten years and is extremely important!
- Get Multiple Quotes: For the same project, get quotes from at least three different companies. Be careful, don’t just look at the total price
