Having recently arrived in Spain, I quickly realized that language is the first major hurdle. Although I enrolled in a language course, the pace felt a bit slow. I also found that without extra self-study to reinforce the lessons, I’d forget things quickly. After some trial and error, I finally developed a Spanish self-study schedule that works for me. I’m sharing it with fellow learners who might be struggling, hoping it can offer some inspiration.
My Principle: Fragmented Time + Fixed Modules
Honestly, it’s really hard for me to stick to a routine of sitting down for a solid 2-3 hours of study every single day. So, my core strategy for self-studying Spanish is: make the most of all fragmented moments, combined with fixed daily or weekly study blocks. For example, time spent waiting for the bus, on the metro, during a lunch break, or even in the bathroom can be used to review vocabulary on an app, listen to a short Spanish news segment, or watch a short video.

My Specific Schedule
The table below is the plan I’m currently following for my DELE preparation time. As I work full-time, I mainly use my mornings, evenings, and weekends. Feel free to adapt it to your own routine.
Sample Weekly Study Plan
| Time Slot | Monday to Friday | Saturday | Sunday |
| Morning | Listening Practice | Grammar Review | Speaking Corner/Language Partner |
| Noon | Vocabulary Memorization | Comprehensive Practice | Total relaxation Watch a Spanish movie |
| Evening | Reading/Writing | Free Time | Plan next week’s study content |
The benefit of this table is that it gives me a clear overview of my daily tasks. Checking off each item after completion brings a great sense of accomplishment. Of course, plans are not set in stone. If I’m too tired or have other commitments, I’ll take a guilt-free day off, haha. The key is to maintain a long-term, consistent learning rhythm.
Finally, I want to say that learning a language is truly a process where ‘slow is fast’. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t see huge progress in the short term. As long as you keep going and improve a little every day, you’ll look back and realize how far you’ve come. ¡Ánimo a todos!
