I’m new to the forum and saw some questions about HSBC branches in Spain. Since I’ve looked into this before, I’d like to share what I’ve learned about [Spanish bank transfers] and the bank’s situation here. Hope this helps!
HSBC’s Current Situation in Spain
Many people arriving from other countries, especially those accustomed to HSBC Premier services, naturally assume that Spain would have plenty of HSBC branches. However, the reality is that HSBC sold its retail banking business in Spain to what was then Banco Sabadell around 2010. So, if you’re looking for the familiar HSBC branches where you can handle personal deposits, withdrawals, or open an account, you’ll find they are virtually non-existent now. Many HSBC customers at the time were transferred directly to Sabadell.

So, has HSBC completely withdrawn from Spain? Not exactly. The bank still operates in Spain, but its focus has shifted to high-end and corporate services like Corporate Banking, Global Banking and Markets, and Private Banking. This means their clients are primarily large corporations, multinational companies, and high-net-worth individuals through HSBC Spain, rather than the general public seeking retail banking services.
Main Office Locations
Although there are no retail branches, HSBC does maintain offices in Spain. These locations primarily handle the corporate and private banking services mentioned above, and you cannot walk in to conduct personal banking. I’ve compiled their main office addresses in Madrid and Barcelona for your reference:
| City | Address |
| Madrid | Paseo de la Castellana, 1, 28046 Madrid |
| Barcelona | Avinguda Diagonal, 601, 08028 Barcelona |
If you are an HSBC Premier client from another country and face an emergency, you can theoretically contact HSBC’s global customer service. They might be able to coordinate with a partner bank in Spain to assist you, but this requires prior communication and confirmation. If you’re considering visiting HSBC Spain's offices directly, you will likely be turned away.
For those of us living in Spain, don’t expect to find an HSBC on the street to do your banking. It’s more practical to opt for local banks like Santander, BBVA, or CaixaBank, or online banks such as ING or N26. Hope this information is useful!
