So, if you’re looking to open a standard personal savings account or get a credit card from Citibank today, you’re essentially out of luck. I initially thought I was just looking in the wrong place, but a friend in the industry confirmed the situation. Nowadays, Citibank España’s main operations are focused on two key areas: corporate banking and private wealth management.

Who Are Citibank’s Target Clients?
So, who exactly can use Citibank’s services? Based on the information I’ve gathered about Citibank Spain, their clientele generally falls into two categories:
- Medium to large corporations: Especially companies with international operations and cross-border funding needs, where Citibank’s global network offers a clear advantage.
- High-net-worth individuals/families: In other words, the very wealthy. Citibank’s private banking services have a high entry barrier, focusing on high-end services like global asset allocation, investment, and family trusts. The entry threshold is said to be in the millions of euros, so
folks like us can only dream.
Therefore, for Citibank Spain, if you are a corporate executive managing your company’s finances in Spain, or a well-funded investor looking for global asset allocation, then Citibank remains a very strong option. However, for most of us—students, salaried employees—who just need a bank for daily deposits, withdrawals, and transfers, Citibank isn’t the right fit.
