When you first arrive in Spain, renting an apartment can be the biggest headache. There’s a ton of information out there, but finding a reliable listing takes time and effort. I recently helped a friend with their apartment search and decided to compile a list of the websites I’ve used and bookmarked. I’m sharing it with those in need to hopefully save you some time and help you avoid common pitfalls.

Mainstream Rental Platforms
When it comes to renting in Spain, you can’t really avoid these major platforms. They have the most listings and cover the entire country, from big cities like Madrid and Barcelona to small towns in Andalusia. You can find properties almost anywhere on them.
Idealista
This is pretty much the go-to website in Spain. It has the largest volume of listings for both renting and buying. The interface is intuitive, and the search filters are excellent—you can sort by neighborhood, price, property type, elevator access, furnishings, and more. The app is also great, allowing you to set alerts for new listings. The main drawback is its popularity; good places are in high demand. If you find something you like, you must act fast, or a good listing on these Spanish rental websites might be gone within hours. You also need to watch out for duplicate or misleading ads from real estate agents.
Fotocasa
Fotocasa is very similar to Idealista and is another huge platform, making it a great second option. Sometimes, you’ll find listings on Fotocasa that aren’t on Idealista. I personally find its interface a bit more flashy, but the functionality is largely the same. I recommend browsing both sites simultaneously to cross-reference and increase your chances of finding a great place. A friend of mine actually found his current apartment on Fotocasa; the landlord had only listed it there.
Quick Platform Comparison
To give you a clearer overview, I’ve made a simple comparison table of the most common platforms. There are others, of course, like Pisos.com, which are quite similar, but I won’t list all the other rental sites in Spain here.
| Website/App | Pros | Cons |
| Idealista | Most listings, powerful filters, large user base | Fierce competition for good places, watch out for fake or duplicate ads |
| Fotocasa | Also has many listings, a good alternative to Idealista for tasks like renting in Barcelona | Interface can be a bit more complex, user experience sometimes not as smooth as Idealista |
| Badi | Focuses on flatshares, allows you to screen potential flatmates | Fewer entire-flat rentals, primarily targets young people and students |
Finally, a word of advice: no matter which platform you use, always be cautious when contacting landlords or agents. Anyone asking for a deposit before you’ve even seen the apartment is almost certainly a scammer—don’t fall for it! It’s always best to arrange an in-person viewing, see the property for yourself, and confirm all the details and contract terms before signing anything or making a payment. Good luck with your search, and I hope you all find a home you love!
