When you first arrive in Spain, finding a place to live is definitely a top priority. I’ve seen many discussions about this, so I wanted to share my experience with a few rental apps, hoping to help those who are stressed out with their housing search.

Main Rental Platforms: Idealista vs. Fotocasa
When it comes to renting in Spain, you’re mainly looking at two giants: Idealista and Fotocasa. I have both apps on my phone, and together they cover over 90% of the available listings. Personally, I find Idealista’s interface cleaner and the user experience better, plus listings are updated very frequently. Fotocasa is also good; sometimes you can stumble upon exclusive listings that aren’t on Idealista. Therefore, for rental apps in Spain, I recommend using both and cross-referencing them.
Pros and Cons of Each Platform
To make it clearer, I’ve created a simple comparison table:
| Platform | Pros | Cons |
| Idealista | Most listings, fast updates, user-friendly app, powerful filtering | High competition, good places are gone in a flash, many agency listings |
| Fotocasa | Some exclusive listings from platforms like Kasaz, good map search feature | Interface is a bit cluttered, occasional duplicate or outdated listings |
Idealista should be your primary tool, with Fotocasa as a supplement. When using Idealista, make sure to set up your filters and email alerts. When you see a place you like, don’t hesitate—send a message or call immediately. Many great apartments, especially those in good downtown locations, can be rented out in half a day with the help of rental apps in Spain.
Here’s another little trick: search for “inmobiliaria” directly on Google Maps and then browse the websites of the real estate agencies you find. Sometimes you can discover hidden gems that haven’t been uploaded to the major platforms yet. However, this method is more time-consuming and is best for those who have plenty of time and want to be very selective.
One final reminder: regardless of which app you use, always inspect the property carefully during a viewing and read all the terms of the contract before signing, especially the sections about the security deposit (fianza) and utilities. Wishing everyone success in finding their own cozy home in Spain!
