A friend’s birthday was coming up, and I was racking my brain for the perfect gift. It’s often hard to choose something they’ll truly love, so I figured an Amazon gift card is the most practical solution—they can pick exactly what they want. While looking into it, I discovered a few useful tips and decided to put together a guide to share with everyone. It’s incredibly convenient, whether for yourself or as a present.
Where to Buy?
There are plenty of ways to buy them, both online and in physical stores. I personally prefer buying online because it’s fast, convenient, and customizable.
Online Purchase
The most direct way is, of course, on the official Amazon.es website. You can buy a digital version sent via email, which is almost instantaneous. There’s also a print-at-home option if you want to give a physical copy. The best part is that you can schedule the delivery time, for instance, sending it to your friend’s inbox right at midnight on their birthday for that special touch! The amount is very flexible, ranging from €0.15 to €1,000.
In-Store Purchase
If you prefer the feel of a physical card for a Spanish gift, many physical supermarkets and stores sell them. Here are some places I’ve seen them:
| Store Type | Common Retailers |
| Supermarkets | Carrefour, Dia, Mercadona, El Corte Inglés |
| Newsstands | Some larger newsstands |
| Tobacco Shops | Estanco/Tabacos |
| Other | Electronics stores like FNAC, MediaMarkt, etc. |
Physical cards usually come in fixed amounts, such as €25, €50, or €100. They can feel a bit more substantial when given as a gift.
How to Use It?
It’s super simple to use. Every gift card has a claim code (código de canje) on the back. Just log in to your Amazon account, go to “Mi cuenta” (My Account), and then find “Cheques regalo y recargar saldo” (Gift Cards & Top Up). Enter the code, click “Canjear” (Redeem), and the money will be instantly added to your account balance. The next time you shop on Amazon, the system will automatically use this balance first at checkout, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
It’s worth noting that this balance can only be used to purchase items sold by Amazon itself or by third-party sellers on the Amazon platform. It cannot be used to buy new gift cards, nor can it be withdrawn as cash. However, this isn’t a major issue, since you can find almost anything on Amazon. By the way, the balance has no expiration date, ¡sin fecha de caducidad
! You can use it whenever you want, which is really great. Unlike some other cards that expire if you don’t use them, which feels like a total ripoff. I hope this short guide is helpful to everyone!
