Having recently moved to Spain, I’ve found that life here is almost inseparable from Amazon. Whether it’s for buying a small appliance or stocking up on snacks and daily necessities, Amazon.es is incredibly convenient. After using it for a while, I’ve gradually discovered some handy little tricks that I find quite useful. I’m sharing them here to see if you use your Amazon shopping cart the same way!
Many of you might be like I used to be, simply clicking ‘Añadir a la cesta’ (Add to Cart) for anything you like and letting them pile up for a single checkout. But the cart has more clever uses. For instance, have you noticed that Amazon’s prices can change at any time? You might see one price in the morning, and by the afternoon, it could have gone up or down.
Locking in Prices and Monitoring Drops
This brings us to the first trick: using the cart to ‘lock in’ the price of certain items. While it’s not a 100% guarantee, in many cases, adding an item to your cart will lock its price for a short period. If you spot a great deal but want to add more items to qualify for free shipping, don’t hesitate—add it to the cart first. Of course, this lock-in period isn’t long, and the final price is what you see at checkout, but it at least gives you a buffer.
An even more useful feature is the ‘Guardar para más tarde’ (Save for later) section below your cart. This function is a price-tracking powerhouse! I usually move all the items I’m tempted by but don’t need immediately to this list. This keeps my main cart clean, containing only what I need to buy now. More importantly, every time you visit your cart, the system automatically notifies you if there are any price changes in your ‘Save for later’ list. For example, it will explicitly state, ‘El precio ha bajado 2,50 €’ (The price has dropped by €2.50). Seeing a notification like this is the perfect time to buy!

Differences Between Prime and Non-Prime Members
There are also subtle differences in the shopping cart experience for Prime and non-Prime members, especially regarding shipping fees and delivery speed. I’ve put together a simple table for a quick comparison:
| Feature | Amazon Prime Member | Non-Prime Member |
| Shipping Fee | Free shipping on most items | Free shipping on orders over €29 |
| Delivery Speed | As fast as next-day, same-day in some areas | Standard delivery |
| Exclusive Discounts | Access to Prime Day and other member-only deals | Cannot participate in member-exclusive events |
So, don’t just treat your cart as a temporary storage basket. Make better use of the ‘Save for later’ feature and get into the habit of checking it regularly—it can really save you a good amount of money.
