Hi everyone! Lately, I’ve been researching various credit cards available here in Spain, looking for one that’s good for online shopping. After looking around, I ended up applying for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa, which is a collaboration between Amazon and Cofidis. I just received it today, so I thought I’d come to the forum and share the whole process as a reference for anyone who might be interested.

The main reason I applied for this card is its rewards program. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you get 3% back in points on purchases made on the Amazon website or app. If you’re not a Prime member, you still get 1.5% back. These points can be directly used as a cash discount on your next Amazon purchase. For someone like me who shops on Amazon frequently, this can add up to significant savings over a year. For non-Amazon purchases, the reward is 0.5%, which is better than nothing, I guess.
Application Process and Documents
The application process is entirely online and very convenient. You can find the application portal by searching for “Tarjeta de crédito Amazon” directly on the Amazon website. The whole process takes about ten to fifteen minutes to complete.
- Fill in basic information: This includes your name, NIE, contact information, home address, etc.
- Provide financial information: You’ll be asked about your employment status, monthly income, and whether you have a mortgage or other loans. It’s advisable to fill this in truthfully, as they may later ask for supporting documents.
- Identity verification: This step requires you to upload photos of the front and back of your NIE and perform a simple facial recognition via your camera. Just follow the on-screen prompts.
- Sign the contract: Read and sign the electronic contract online. Cofidis will send the contract to your email. Be sure to carefully review its terms, especially the parts about repayment methods and interest rates.
After the process is complete, Cofidis will review your application. I received the approval email after about 2 days. Roughly a week later, the physical card arrived at my home via registered mail. For security reasons, they send the card and the PIN letter separately.
Important Notes and Personal Thoughts
This card is essentially a credit service provided by Cofidis, so there are a few things everyone should pay close attention to. The default repayment method is installment payments, which comes with very high interest rates! Don’t fall into this trap
! As soon as you receive and activate your card, you must log into the Cofidis online banking portal or app and change the repayment method to “pago a fin de mes” (full payment at the end of the month)
. This way, as long as you pay the full balance on time, you won’t incur any interest.
Here’s a summary of the pros and cons of this card that I’ve put together:
| Pros 👍 | Cons 👎 |
| Simple and fast application process | High interest due to default installment plan |
| High reward points on Amazon Prime purchases | Lower reward points on non-Amazon purchases |
| No annual or maintenance fees | Credit limit might be low |
| Points can be used directly as cash, easy to use | Customer service is handled mainly through Cofidis |
If you are a heavy Amazon user with good credit habits and know how to manage a credit card, then this card is definitely worth applying for. But if you’re not familiar with managing credit products or worry you might forget to change the repayment method, then you should consider it carefully. I hope my sharing has been helpful, and I welcome friends who already have this card to share their experiences too!
