Lately, it seems like many prospective students on the forum have been asking about the University of Málaga. As an alumna who studied at UMA, I couldn’t resist sharing some of my experiences to help those of you choosing a university and major! Málaga isn’t just about sun and beaches; it also has a great academic atmosphere.
The University of Málaga is a very young and vibrant public university. The main campus, Teatinos, is huge with modern facilities, making for a fantastic learning environment. Walking around campus, you get a sense that the students are all very tranquilo. Of course, don’t fall for the common misconception that all faculties are on the new campus, and all programs are by the sea haha. Some faculties of the University of Málaga, Spain are still located at the old El Ejido campus in the city center.

A Rundown of UMA’s Top Programs
If you’re considering UMA, these top-tier programs are definitely worth a closer look:
Tourism and Hotel Management
This one is a no-brainer, right? Málaga is on the Costa del Sol, a world-class tourist destination, so the university’s tourism program is perfectly positioned to take advantage of this. The curriculum brilliantly combines theory and practice, many professors are leading industry professionals, and internship opportunities are abundant.
Economics and Business
The Faculty of Economics and Business is one of UMA’s flagship faculties, with a long history and a solid reputation for quality teaching. Whether you’re interested in accounting, finance, or marketing, you’ll receive an excellent education here.
Information Technology and Engineering
The Andalusia Technology Park (PTA), one of Spain’s ‘Silicon Valleys,’ is right next door. The university’s Telecommunications and Computer Engineering programs have very close ties with the park, leading to excellent job prospects.
To make things clearer, I’ve put together a simple table listing some of the main faculties and their campus locations. This can be helpful when choosing your courses and accommodation:
| Faculty | Main Fields of Study | Campus Location |
| Faculty of Tourism | Tourism Management | Teatinos |
| Faculty of Economics and Business | Economics, Finance, Business Administration | El Ejido/Teatinos |
| School of Telecommunications Engineering | Telecommunications Engineering | Teatinos |
| School of Computer Engineering | Computer Engineering | Teatinos |
| Faculty of Fine Arts | Fine Arts, Art History | El Ejido |
| Faculty of Arts and Humanities | Translation, Linguistics, History | Teatinos |
Ultimately, choosing a major should align with your personal interests and future career goals. The city of Málaga itself is a huge plus—the cost of living is lower than in Madrid or Barcelona, the climate is wonderful, and there’s a rich cultural scene. I hope my sharing has been helpful. Feel free to ask any questions in the replies! Good luck with your applications
