Hello everyone! I’ve seen a lot of discussions about Spanish universities on the forum lately, and as a huge fan of UPF, I couldn’t resist sharing my perspective on its campus scenery. Many people know UPF for its strong academics, but its campus environment is also top-notch, especially for those who love the city and the sea. It’s truly a dream place to study.
A Tour of UPF’s Three Campuses
One of the most unique things about UPF is that it doesn’t have a single, enclosed campus. Instead, it’s integrated into the city of Barcelona itself. Its three main campuses each have their own character, spread out between the seaside and the city center, connecting the modern and historic sides of Barcelona.
Ciutadella Campus - An Academic Sanctuary in the City’s Green Lung
This is UPF’s core and most beautiful campus, home to students in the social sciences and humanities. It’s located right next to the famous Parc de la Ciutadella, and the entire complex is a beautifully designed conversion of a historic water deposit. After class, you can take a walk through the park to the Gothic Quarter or the beach in just ten to fifteen minutes—it’s a kind of relaxation that’s hard to describe in words. The library’s floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto green trees and sunshine. When you’re tired from studying, looking up at the scenery of UPF University in Spain is simply a treat.

This is the campus’s inner courtyard, isn’t it amazing?
Poblenou Campus - A Collision of Industrial Style and Tech
Students in communication and engineering technologies are based at the Poblenou campus. This area was formerly Barcelona’s industrial district and has now been transformed into the famous 22@ Innovation District, with offices for Google and Microsoft nearby. The campus buildings themselves are converted old factories, retaining their original brick walls and tall chimneys, while the interiors are equipped with modern, tech-focused facilities. Walking through the campus, you can feel a unique atmosphere of blended old and new cultures; it’s arguably one of the coolest areas in Barcelona.
Mar Campus - Next Door to the Mediterranean
Life sciences and medical programs are located at the Mar campus—as its name suggests, it’s right by the sea! It’s situated next to the Hospital del Mar. Just imagine, during a break from a lab session, you could open a window and see the azure Mediterranean Sea, feel the sea breeze… wouldn’t that send your motivation to study soaring? As a humanities student, I’m definitely envious.
To give you a clearer idea, I’ve made a simple table:
| Campus Name | Main Disciplines | Nearby Attractions |
| Ciutadella Campus | Social Sciences, Humanities | Parc de la Ciutadella, Gothic Quarter, Beach |
| Poblenou Campus | Communication, Engineering, Translation | 22@ Innovation District, Industrial Heritage |
| Mar Campus | Life Sciences, Medicine | Mediterranean Sea, Olympic Port |
UPF’s campus scenery perfectly embodies the idea that ‘the university is part of the city.’ Studying here means you not only gain top-tier academic knowledge, which is reflected in the UPF University ranking in Spain, but also get to deeply experience the charm of Barcelona. They are less like traditional campuses and more like learning communities scattered throughout the city’s prime locations. Feel free to share your UPF stories too
