Madrid Celebrates the Grand 2026 Three Kings Parade
On the evening of January 5, 2026, Madrid welcomed its annual Three Kings Parade celebration. Despite nighttime temperatures dropping to near zero, the downtown streets were flooded with over 200,000 people to witness this traditional event. The Three Kings, Melchor, Gaspar, and Balthazar, appeared on their floats, tossing candy to children along the route and creating a magical and warm festive atmosphere.
Parade Route and Schedule
The parade began at 18:00 from the Plaza de San Juan de la Cruz, proceeding along Paseo de la Castellana and Paseo de Recoletos, finally arriving at Plaza de Cibeles around 21:00. The entire journey lasted about three hours. The procession included 15 floats powered by renewable energy and approximately 2,100 participants, including a 250-strong royal entourage.
Event Theme and Performance Highlights
This year’s parade was themed “A Gift of Knowledge,” with float designs incorporating literary and educational elements, transforming the streets into a mobile library. Performing groups included seven national and three international companies, presenting acts of circus, dance, music, and magic. Renowned artists like magician Jorge Blass participated in the show, and a total of 1,200 kilograms of candy was distributed along the way. A large, luminous Star of the East led the procession, adding to the visual spectacle.
Public Participation and Atmosphere
Tens of thousands of families and children secured spots along the streets early on. Children excitedly waved and shouted, asking for candy and handing over their last-minute wish-list letters. The event also featured “Sweeper Postmen” characters specifically tasked with collecting these late letters. Despite the biting cold, the crowd’s enthusiasm was unwavering, filling the streets with laughter and looks of anticipation, fully showcasing the magic of this holiday.
Climactic Address and Fireworks Finale
After the parade reached Plaza de Cibeles, the Three Kings gave a performance and delivered an address. King Gaspar encouraged the children to become the scientists, artists, and thinkers of the future, emphasizing the importance of knowledge. The Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, was also in attendance. The event concluded with a spectacular pyromusical display, as hundreds of fireworks lit up the night sky, bringing the celebration to a perfect close.
