Alicante’s El Palmeral Park to Close on Mornings of January 19-23 for Palm Tree Pruning and Maintenance
The Alicante City Council has announced that El Palmeral Park, located in the southern part of the city, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily between January 19 and 23, 2026. This is to facilitate essential pruning, inspection, and maintenance work on the park’s more than 7,000 palm trees, as well as to adjust the irrigation system. The park will remain open in the afternoons to minimize disruption to visitors.
Details of the Maintenance Work
This maintenance will primarily focus on the park’s palm grove, which is mostly composed of date palms, for regular pruning and individual tree checks. These are routine tasks requiring aerial work platforms and vehicles to transport the pruned fronds. To ensure public and visitor safety, the city council has decided to close the park during these morning work hours.
Park Opening Hour Adjustments
From Monday, January 19, to Friday, January 23, El Palmeral Park will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It will reopen after 3 p.m. and operate until its normal closing time. The council advises visitors to plan their visits accordingly and avoid the morning hours.
