Hey everyone! I’ve seen a lot of questions from prospective students on the forums about universities in Seville, especially about Pablo de Olavide University. As a seasoned student who’s been studying here for two years, I’m starting this post to share my honest experience, hoping it can help those of you choosing a university.
My First Impression of UPO: The Campus Environment
When I first arrived at UPO, my biggest impression was: This campus is so new and modern
! Unlike many of Spain’s older, more crowded universities in city centers, UPO is designed like a typical American-style campus. The entire campus is huge, with excellent green spaces, full of lawns and sports fields. On sunny days, you’ll see many people reading, sunbathing, or chatting on the grass—the atmosphere is fantastic. The academic buildings, library, and gym are also very new and comfortable to use. For students who prefer an open, modern campus environment, UPO is definitely a huge plus.

Academics and Atmosphere
UPO is a relatively young public university. While its overall reputation might not be as famous as the Complutense University of Madrid or the University of Barcelona, it has strong advantages in certain fields. For instance, Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Sports Sciences, and Biotechnology are some of its flagship programs. Personally, I find the academic atmosphere here to be very practical. The relationship between professors and students is quite close; if you have questions, you can email them or visit their offices, and they are always willing to help. However, the curriculum is quite demanding. To graduate successfully, you definitely need to put in the effort—slacking off is not an option at the Pablo de Olavide Public University
.
Speaking of applications, here’s a quick breakdown of costs, which is a major concern for many. The cost of living in Seville is relatively low compared to other major Spanish cities, offering great value for money.
| Item | Approx. Annual Cost (EUR) |
| Bachelor’s Official Tuition Fee | 750 - 1,000 |
| Master’s Official Tuition Fee | 800 - 3,000+ |
| Annual Living Expenses | 6,000 - 8,000 |
UPO is a great choice, especially for students on a budget who want to experience both the Andalusian charm and a modern university life. It’s not as chaotic as a big city; the pace of life is slower, allowing you to focus on your studies and immerse yourself in Spanish culture. Of course, if you’re seeking the prestige of a top-tier university and the hustle and bustle of a major metropolis, you might want to reconsider. I hope my sharing has been helpful.
