For those of you following the EuroLeague, you’ve surely seen the Real Madrid vs. Partizan Belgrade game all over your feeds, right? The scene was absolutely explosive! What was supposed to be a thrilling playoff matchup turned into chaos in the final two minutes when a foul led to both benches clearing and a full-on brawl erupting on the court.

In the midst of the chaos, the most outrageous eye-catching moment involved Real Madrid’s forward, Yabusele. He used a move resembling a judo throw to violently slam Exum to the floor. Honestly, I was stunned watching it live. That move was incredibly dangerous and goes far beyond the scope of basketball. Regardless of any friction, an action that could end a player’s career is absolutely unacceptable.
Official Penalties
After the game, the EuroLeague officials quickly announced their decision on the penalties. Overall, the punishments were quite severe, with several players receiving suspensions. I’ve summarized the penalties for the main players involved:
| Player | Team | Penalty |
| Guerschon Yabusele | Real Madrid | 5-game suspension |
| Kevin Punter | Partizan Belgrade | 2-game suspension |
| Gabriel Deck | Real Madrid | 1-game suspension |
| Matthias Lessort | Partizan Belgrade | 1-game suspension |
In addition to the player suspensions in the ACB League, both clubs were fined €50,000. Yabusele later apologized on social media, stating he deeply regretted his actions. But regardless, this stain on his reputation will be hard to erase.
Personally, I feel that while the brawl brought shame to the game, it also reflects the intense level of competition in top-tier European basketball. This ‘do-or-die’ atmosphere gets amplified in the playoffs. Of course, violence is definitely wrong, and hopefully, the players will learn from this and focus their energy more on the game of basketball itself, as seen in the ACB League.
What does everyone think about this massive brawl? Do you feel the official penalties were too lenient or too harsh? Was Yabusele’s move a step too far? Feel free to share your thoughts!
