Fuel Prices on the Rise
According to the data released on February 2, 2026, by the European Union’s Weekly Oil Bulletin (Boletín Petrolero de la Unión Europea), fuel market prices in Spain have rebounded for the second consecutive week. Specifically, the average price of gasoline increased by 0.41% to €1.446 per liter. Diesel prices also rose, with the average price per liter increasing by 0.57% to €1.395. This price adjustment breaks the downward trend that began in November 2025, during which time gasoline prices fell by a cumulative 3.5% and diesel prices dropped by over 5%.
Filling a Tank is Still Cheaper Than Last Year
Despite the recent price hikes, consumers’ fuel costs are still lower compared to the same period last year. For a standard 55-liter tank, filling up with diesel costs approximately €76.75, which is about €6.24 cheaper than a year ago. Similarly, the cost to fill a tank with gasoline is around €79.53, a saving of €7.31 compared to the same time last year. Furthermore, data shows that diesel prices have remained below gasoline prices for 152 consecutive weeks, returning to the market norm seen before the war in Ukraine. Current fuel prices are still significantly lower than the historic peaks reached in the summer of 2022 due to market turmoil.
Price Fluctuations Influenced by Multiple Factors

The final retail price of fuel is a complex process influenced by a variety of factors. These mainly include the price trends in the international crude oil market, the wholesale price of the fuel itself, government taxes, and the logistics and distribution costs from the refinery to the pump. It is worth noting that changes in international crude oil prices are typically reflected in the final retail price after a time lag. Industry analysts believe that although the market is experiencing fluctuations, the overall fuel prices in Spain currently remain within a relatively stable range.
Spanish Fuel Prices Remain Below EU Average
Across Europe, fuel prices in Spain remain relatively competitive. Currently, the average price of 95-octane unleaded gasoline in Spain is €1.446 per liter, which is below the EU-27 average of €1.615 and the Eurozone average of €1.691. The price advantage for diesel in Spain is also evident, with its average price being lower than both the EU average of €1.571 and the Eurozone average of €1.628.
