When I first came to Spain, I often heard people mention UCAM (Catholic University of Murcia). Initially, I only knew it for its stunningly beautiful and historic main campus, the Jerónimos Monastery. However, after doing a little digging recently, I discovered that this university is practically the ‘West Point’ of Spanish sports, having produced an incredible number of famous figures!
UCAM’s “Walk of Fame”
UCAM is renowned for its support of student-athletes, implementing a unique educational model that allows professional athletes to balance high-intensity training and competitions with their university studies. As a result, many top Spanish athletes choose to study here, joining the ranks of other famous alumni of Spanish universities. It’s no exaggeration to call it a cradle for Olympic champions. Although a slacker like me can only look on in envy, that doesn’t stop us from taking a look at these shining stars.
Dazzling Stars from the World of Sports
When talking about UCAM’s sports celebrities, the first name that comes to mind has to be Spain’s ‘Queen of Swimming’—Mireia Belmonte. She’s a household name in Spain, holding four Olympic medals, including a gold from the Rio Olympics! She graduated from UCAM with a degree in Advertising. How cool would it be to share an alma mater with an Olympic champion?
