Madrid Public Healthcare Network Achieves Top Marks in Multiple International Rankings
The public healthcare system of the Community of Madrid has demonstrated outstanding performance in the latest international medical assessments. According to the “World’s Best Hospitals 2026” ranking published by the authoritative American magazine Newsweek, a total of 7 public hospitals in Madrid successfully made it into the global top 250. Compared to the previous year, not only did the number of listed hospitals increase by one, but the overall rankings of each hospital also saw a significant leap.
Sweeping the National Top Three, 7 Institutions Enter the Global Top 250

In Newsweek’s assessment of over 2,500 medical institutions across 32 countries globally, Madrid’s public hospitals swept the top three spots in Spain’s national rankings. Among them, Hospital Universitario La Paz ranked 42nd globally, Hospital Universitario 12 de Octubre climbed to 50th, and Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón ranked 68th.
Furthermore, Hospital Universitario Ramón y Cajal (118th), Hospital Clínico San Carlos (163rd), Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz (168th), and Hospital Universitario Puerta de Hierro Majadahonda (202nd) all successfully entered the global top 250.
National Top 100 List Expands Alongside Assessment Criteria
In the concurrently released list of Spain’s top 100 best hospitals, the Madrid public healthcare network has a total of 17 hospitals listed, an increase of 3 from last year. Hospital Universitario Príncipe de Asturias, Hospital Universitario de Torrejón, and Hospital Universitario de Fuenlabrada all made their debut in the national top 100.
This ranking has been published for eight consecutive years, and its core evaluation system covers four key dimensions: peer recommendations from thousands of medical experts, objective quality of care metrics, patient satisfaction surveys, and the practical application of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs).
Financial Investment and Specialized Development Behind the Forbes Top 10
The superiority of Madrid’s healthcare system is also validated by other authoritative assessments. In the “10 Best Hospitals in Spain for 2025” list published by Forbes magazine, Madrid’s public hospitals occupy 6 seats and sweep the top four. Notably, Hospital Universitario Fundación Jiménez Díaz, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary, topped the list for the second consecutive year thanks to a patient satisfaction rate of over 91% and extremely short surgical waiting times.
Behind these achievements is unprecedented financial support. In 2026, the total investment in Madrid’s public healthcare system has surpassed 11 billion euros. This budget has not only helped the region maintain the shortest surgical waiting lists nationwide but also driven the development of specialized medical care. This month, the Community of Madrid established 10 new referral centers for complex diseases, bringing its share of such high-level treatment centers to nearly one-third of the national total in Spain, further consolidating its status as a leading medical hub nationally and even across Europe.
