Notorious Criminal Directs Gang from Prison, Network Spans Three Regions
Spanish National Police recently announced the successful dismantling of a violent criminal organization that had long been active in the central region of Spain. The gang specialized in ‘ram-raids’ (known locally as alunizaje), with their criminal activities spanning the regions of Madrid, Toledo, and Ciudad Real. The investigation revealed that the criminal network was masterminded from behind bars by a well-known repeat offender, ‘Samuelillo’.
To date, police have arrested 9 members of the gang, who are accused of participating in at least 22 organized violent thefts. The gang’s actions have had a severe impact on the local business community.
Professional and Violent Methods Result in Major Losses
The organization’s modus operandi demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and violence. They typically operated late at night or in the early morning, using high-powered, luxury vehicles to ram directly into the display windows or metal shutters of targeted stores, thereby forcing entry. Once inside, the members would quickly grab high-value merchandise and use the high-performance vehicles to make a swift getaway.
According to estimates, the total value of stolen goods from this series of crimes exceeds €200,000, while the cumulative physical damage to the businesses is over €50,000.
Luxury Stores Targeted, Details of a Typical Heist Revealed
The gang primarily targeted stores selling high-value goods. A typical case occurred in October 2025 on Calle Virgen de los Peligros, near the Gran Vía in central Madrid, where a second-hand luxury goods store was targeted.
At around 3 a.m. on the day of the incident, three vehicles (one of which was a Land Rover later recovered in another town) arrived at the scene. The criminals forcibly broke through the shop’s metal door and smashed the display window, looting about 20 designer handbags and a pair of high-end sneakers in a very short time. The value of the goods stolen in this single heist amounted to tens of thousands of euros.
Police Raid Two Hideouts, Seize Stolen Goods and Burglary Tools
Following an in-depth investigation, the police identified two of the gang’s main hideouts, one in the Entrevías neighborhood of Madrid and another in the province of Toledo. These locations were used as gathering points for members, for planning operations, and for storing stolen goods and getaway vehicles.
After gathering sufficient evidence, the police launched a series of raids. During the operation, police not only arrested several core members of the gang inside one of the residences but also seized a large quantity of stolen goods, including various high-end perfumes. A female suspect, responsible for fencing the stolen goods and wanted on multiple arrest warrants, was also apprehended during the raid.
In addition, the police recovered a total of 7 stolen vehicles, all of which had been fitted with false license plates to evade detection. Inside the vehicles and at the hideouts, officers also found a large number of professional burglary tools, such as sledgehammers, crowbars, and lock-pullers, further confirming the gang’s high level of organization and danger. All arrested suspects have been handed over to the judicial authorities to await trial.
