Lately, there have been a lot of posts on the forum asking about universities. I noticed some people are curious about private universities in Madrid, so I wanted to talk about one I’m familiar with: CEU San Pablo University, or CEU for short.
CEU is a well-known, long-established private university in Madrid with a Catholic background. As a result, the atmosphere at CEU San Pablo University tends to be a bit more traditional and disciplined. The facilities are truly top-notch, which is expected given the tuition fees. The campus environment is also excellent, especially the Moncloa campus, located in the University City (Ciudad Universitaria), which has a great academic vibe. Here’s a picture to give you an idea.

CEU’s Two Main Campuses: Check Before Choosing Your Major
It’s crucial to know this before applying: CEU has two main campuses that are quite far apart. Your choice of major will determine where you attend classes. If you pick the ‘wrong’ one for your lifestyle, the daily commute might make you question your life choices, haha. One campus is in the city center, Moncloa, and the other is in the suburbs, Montepríncipe.
I’ve put together a simple table to make it more intuitive (for more on its reputation, check out this info on CEU San Pablo University’s QS ranking):
| Campus | Location | Main Schools/Faculties |
| Moncloa | Madrid city center, near the University City | Humanities & Communication Sciences, Economics & Business Sciences, Law |
| Montepríncipe | Madrid suburbs, quiet environment | Medicine, Polytechnic School |
Majors in humanities, business, and law are on the city campus, where life and transportation are very convenient. Meanwhile, engineering and medicine-related programs are at Montepríncipe. That campus is more like a self-contained university town—it’s serene and perfect for focused research, but getting into the city center takes some time. Their programs in Journalism, Advertising, and Audiovisual Communication are highly regarded among locals in Spain. Word is that they offer many practical opportunities and great networking resources.
As a private university, CEU’s tuition isn’t cheap, generally starting at €10,000 per year. Personally, I feel it’s a good fit for students from well-off families who are seeking a more elite education in Spain and want more hands-on experience and internship opportunities. But that’s just my personal opinion, not an official statement, of course. Let’s discuss this together
! Are there any current CEU students or alumni who can share their real experiences?
