A Fatal Accident During the Festivities
A fatal accident occurred on April 24th in the town of Beas de Segura, in the province of Jaén, Andalusia, Spain. At around 7:00 PM local time, during the traditional “San Marcos, toros ensogaos” (San Marcos, roped bulls) event, which is listed as a “Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia,” a 33-year-old man was violently gored by a bull, suffering severe injuries.
Severe Injuries, Resuscitation Unsuccessful
According to a statement from the event organizers, the Hermandad de San Marcos (Brotherhood of Saint Mark), and the local council, the victim was gored multiple times, suffering penetrating wounds to his abdomen, groin, and chest. Although the on-site medical team performed immediate emergency surgery in a makeshift infirmary, the man succumbed to his injuries around 8:00 PM while being transferred to a hospital.

Victim Was an Experienced Professional
Tragically, the victim was not an ordinary spectator or tourist. He was a well-known local rancher from the famous San Román bull-breeding family. The fact that a professional, deeply familiar with the behavior of bulls, could not escape this fate has left the local community in shock and grief.
Official Mourning and Safety Reassessment
Following the tragedy, the Beas de Segura town council immediately canceled all of Friday night’s celebratory events as a sign of mourning. Although Saturday’s festivities proceeded as planned, they began with a minute of silence in honor of the victim. This bloody incident has once again brought the safety of Spain’s traditional bull-running festivals into the public spotlight.
