Daylight Attack
According to a statement released by the Mossos d’Esquadra (the Catalan regional police) on May 2nd, a serious violent incident occurred on Saturday morning in the city of Esplugues de Llobregat, Barcelona province. At approximately 11 a.m., on Joan Miró Avenue, a man attacked a woman with a knife on a public road.
Emergency Response and Tragic Outcome
Upon receiving the alert, police patrols and medical teams from the Catalan Emergency Medical System (SEM) quickly arrived at the scene. Paramedics immediately provided emergency medical care to the victim. However, due to the severity of her injuries, the woman could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Swift Arrest of the Suspect
The assailant fled the scene immediately after the attack. Police initiated a pursuit, quickly tracking down and locating the suspect. The individual was ultimately arrested in the Barcelona area.
Case Classification and Investigation Status
The case has now been officially handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC) of the Catalan Police. The investigation is preliminarily treating the case as an act of gender-based violence (Violencia de Género). As the case is under a judicial seal, officials have not released further details, such as the exact relationship between the victim and the suspect or the motive for the attack. The Esplugues de Llobregat City Council has issued a public statement strongly condemning the violent act, noting that such incidents severely disrupt social peace.
