On April 13, 2026, during an official visit to China, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the Xiaomi Campus in Beijing. He was personally escorted by Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Xiaomi Group, who presented the company’s latest advancements in electric vehicles, smartphones, and smart home technology. Notably, this was the only company Sánchez visited during his trip to China from April 11 to 15.
Prime Minister’s Hands-On Experience with Smart Connectivity

During the tour, Sánchez focused on experiencing Xiaomi’s first electric vehicle, the SU7. He got inside the car, inquiring about details such as its driving range and smart cockpit, and had an in-depth discussion with Lei Jun. Upon learning about the seamless integration between the car and Xiaomi smartphones, Sánchez praised its convenient connectivity, calling it “exceptionally good.” He also showed interest in the flagship Xiaomi 17 Ultra smartphone, co-engineered with Leica, and suggested taking a photo with it.
Xiaomi’s Deep-Rooted Connection with the Spanish Market
This visit underscores the close ties between Xiaomi and the Spanish market. According to market data, Xiaomi became the top smartphone brand in Spain in 2025, holding a 30% market share. In recent years, Xiaomi has established partnerships with several local Spanish companies across various sectors, including smartphones, its smart ecosystem, and even the automotive supply chain, laying the groundwork for this high-level visit.
European Market: The Next Target for Xiaomi Auto
Sánchez’s visit has also drawn attention to Xiaomi Auto’s international strategy. Xiaomi plans to begin overseas deliveries of its vehicles in 2027, with Europe being one of its initial target markets. The company had already showcased its automotive ambitions at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain, in March 2026. At the event, Xiaomi unveiled the Xiaomi Vision GT, a concept hypercar in collaboration with the famous racing game Gran Turismo, becoming the first Chinese brand ever invited to the project, sharing the stage with international giants like Ferrari and Porsche.
