1. A Mysterious Fall and a Reopened Investigation
On December 14, 2024, Isak Andic, the founder of the Spanish fast-fashion brand Mango, tragically died during a hiking trip. The incident occurred near the Salnitre caves in the Montserrat mountains, in the province of Barcelona. He was accompanied at the time by his eldest son, Jonathan Andic. According to Jonathan’s initial statement, his father’s death was an accident, caused by a misstep while taking a photo, leading to a fall into a deep ravine. However, after a preliminary investigation, the Spanish National Police (Policía Nacional) found numerous contradictions in his testimony and decided to reopen a full-scale investigation into the death.
2. Key Evidence Points to Premeditated Murder
As the investigation deepened, the nature of the case took a dramatic turn. To test the ‘accidental fall’ theory, a special police task force conducted as many as 10 simulated human fall experiments at the cliff. The results indicated that the probability of an accidental fall was extremely low and that the victim’s trajectory was more consistent with the physics of being intentionally pushed from behind. This technical evidence became central to the case against Jonathan Andic, completely refuting his explanation of an ‘accident’. Subsequently, the judge of the 5th Investigative Court of Martorell (Barcelona) determined there were signs of ‘active and premeditated participation’ by the suspect in his father’s death and officially ordered his arrest.
3. Inheritance Dispute Comes to Light
During an examination of the suspect’s communication devices, judicial police uncovered a strong financial motive. The investigation revealed that Jonathan Andic and his father, Isak Andic, had long had a strained relationship over financial matters, with Jonathan even demanding an early division of the family assets. A critical turning point occurred in mid-2024 when Jonathan learned that his father planned to change his will to establish a charitable foundation and donate his entire fortune. Jonathan’s attitude then changed completely. He began to proactively mend their relationship and suggested they go on a trip together. However, geolocation data showed that on December 7, 8, and 10, just before the incident, he had driven alone to the area multiple times, which is believed to have been for reconnaissance and route planning.
4. Million-Euro Bail and Judicial Supervision
Despite the gravity of the case, the presiding judge included a bail provision in the pre-trial detention order. With the help of his legal team, Jonathan Andic managed to raise and pay the substantial €1 million bail in just 20 minutes, securing his temporary release. However, the court imposed strict conditions, including the confiscation of his passport, a ban on leaving Spain, and a requirement to report to the court weekly. Currently, forensic audits and micro-trace evidence analysis for the case are still underway. This high-society case, allegedly a murder plot for a vast inheritance, has shocked Spain and the wider European community. The suspect now awaits the final judgment of the law.
