Seville Infant Burn Case: A Tragedy the Family Calls ‘Murder’
A shocking case has recently unfolded in the southern Spanish city of Seville. A 14-month-old baby girl suffered severe burns while being bathed and passed away in the hospital after a two-month struggle. Seville’s Preliminary Investigation Court No. 11 has now taken over the case, placing the mother’s boyfriend at the time as the main person of interest in an investigation now being treated as a suspected murder.
The Tragedy Unfolds: Infant Suffers 60% Burns
The incident occurred in the town of Bormujos, in the province of Seville. According to the initial report, the infant was being cared for and bathed by her mother’s then-boyfriend on the day of the incident. Subsequently, the baby was found with extensive, severe burns and was rushed to the hospital.

Medical reports indicated that the baby had burns covering up to 60% of her body, including her face, and her injuries were extremely severe. The tragic nature of the injuries triggered a series of responses, directly leading the hospital to activate its emergency alert protocol.
Life-Saving Efforts Fail: Death After Two Months of Treatment
The infant was rushed to the burn unit at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville for treatment. For approximately two months, the medical team fought to save her, performing multiple skin grafts, but her injuries were too severe. She was pronounced dead last Friday.
Due to the suspicious nature of the infant’s injuries upon admission, the hospital immediately followed protocol and notified the Spanish National Police, paving the way for judicial intervention.
Judicial Intervention: Case Escalates from Accident to Homicide Investigation
The case was initially handled by the juvenile crime investigation unit. However, following the infant’s death, the nature of the case changed significantly and has now been formally transferred to the Homicide Investigation Group.
The judge overseeing the case has questioned the mother’s former partner, who is currently under investigation. The legal process is moving forward to uncover the full truth of the incident.
Family’s Doubts: Refuting the ‘Accident’ Story and Pointing to ‘Vicarious Violence’
In interviews, the infant’s mother and maternal grandmother have vehemently denied that this was an accident. They revealed that the explanation given by the man involved was that the child turned on the hot water tap herself while the mother went to get a towel.
“My child couldn’t even walk yet, she was only 14 months old,” the grandmother stated with grief and anger. The family raised several points of suspicion: How could a child who couldn’t walk independently manage to turn on a tap and cause such extensive burns? Why did the adult responsible for the bath have no burns himself?
Based on these unexplained contradictions, the family has requested that the police investigate the case as a murder. They also raised a chilling possibility: that the case may involve ‘vicarious violence’ against the mother, where an abuser harms a child as an extreme form of psychological and emotional revenge against their partner.
