Tip-off Triggers Police Investigation
According to an official statement from the Civil Guard Command in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, the investigation was initiated following a complaint filed by an authorized representative of a sports organization. The representative reported the illegal sale of counterfeit team apparel on the market. Upon receiving the tip-off, the Fiscal and Border Patrol of the Spanish Civil Guard in Vecindario promptly launched an investigation.
First Operation: Large Haul of Fakes in Carrizal Store
After preliminary verification of suspicious points of sale, officers conducted the first enforcement action on June 18. Inside a store in the Carrizal area, police seized 529 counterfeit sportswear items, including jerseys and shorts. These goods primarily imitated the national team kits for the 2026 World Cup, with an estimated market value of approximately €36,500.
Success Broadens: Another Fake Goods Outlet Busted in Telde
A few days later, on June 21, investigators followed the trail and identified a second point of sale in the municipality of Telde. During a raid on this shop, police confiscated another large batch of counterfeit goods, totaling 740 items, also related to national teams participating in the 2026 World Cup. This haul was valued at a high of €61,375. In total, the two operations resulted in the seizure of 1,269 counterfeit apparel items with a combined value exceeding €97,000.
Case Update: Shop Owner Investigated, Inquiry Continues
During the first operation, officers identified and registered the details of the shop’s owner. This individual is currently under formal investigation for an alleged crime against industrial property. The Spanish Civil Guard has stated that the investigation is ongoing to fully uncover all facts of the case and to identify any other individuals who may be involved.
