The Spanish National Police took action in Madrid on July 30, arresting a man suspected of a series of arson attacks. According to a police report, the suspect is accused of setting multiple fires over a five-month period in the Puente de Vallecas district, destroying a total of seven motor vehicles.
A Five-Month Arson Spree
The series of incidents began in the early hours of February 20, when four cars in the area were set on fire. The intense blaze caused severe damage to the vehicles. Similar incidents continued thereafter.
On March 23, another car was burned in the same neighborhood using a similar method. After a few months of quiet, the arsonist struck again on July 29, leaving two motorcycles reduced to ashes. Although these three incidents occurred on different dates, they were all concentrated in the same area and shared a highly consistent modus operandi.
Meticulous Police Investigation
Immediately after the first incident, the Spanish National Police launched an investigation. Although the perpetrator chose different dates and specific locations, the consistency of their methods and the geographical concentration of the attacks provided crucial clues for the investigation.
By analyzing the criminal pattern, investigators gradually built a behavioral profile of the suspect, ultimately succeeding in identifying him and tracking his movements. The police’s continuous surveillance and strategic deployment laid the groundwork for the final arrest.
Suspect’s Capture and Impact of the Crimes
The police successfully apprehended the suspect on July 30. He faces charges for a total of seven counts of arson. In addition to the seven completely destroyed vehicles, the series of fires also caused cosmetic damage to other nearby parked cars. The flames and intense heat also damaged public property, such as road surfaces and street signs.
Currently, the suspect has been formally handed over to the relevant judicial authorities to await further legal proceedings and sentencing.
